Wellcome! is an initiative by our "non-profit organisation" to transform the healthcare experience for LGBTTQIA+ individuals in New Zealand. By addressing systemic challenges, we aim to create environments of acceptance and understanding within GP clinics.
Queer individuals often face hostility, discrimination, and ignorance in healthcare settings, leading to disparities in health outcomes. Wellcome! addresses these issues by training receptionists to use gender-affirming language, revise intake forms, and adopt other inclusive strategies. Our goal is to ensure every GP clinic in New Zealand is LGBTTQIA+ friendly and celebrates diversity.
Wellcome! is more than a project; it's a lifeline for marginalised communities, amplifying voices and fostering a culture of empathy and understanding. By equipping receptionists with the knowledge and skills to navigate complex identities with sensitivity, we enhance the healthcare experience for queer individuals and all patients, promoting a more compassionate and inclusive society.

WORKSHOP AND CAMPAIGN
Our workshops, facilitated by Wellcome!, run for two hours with breaks between each stage. They include an open discussion where participants can address additional topics or fill knowledge gaps, and a checklist review to identify current successes and areas needing improvement. These workshops cover categories highlighting barriers queer people might face in accessing inclusive and welcoming healthcare. Clinics must meet requirements from these categories to achieve certification.
